Warm weather and campus offices

A reminder from Facilities: As sunny, warm weather approaches, you can help keep your work space comfortable and avoid wasted energy costs (up to 33%) by adjusting your window coverings when the sun is shining.

  • For west and north facing windows, close window coverings before you leave for the day.  This will block the sun's heat in the early morning. You can open them when the sun is not shining in if your office temperature is comfortable.
  • For east and south facing windows, close the blinds around noon. You can open them when you leave at night

In warm weather, once a space is overheated it can be difficult for our cooling systems to cool them in the afternoon. Adjusting your windows in alignment with the weather will help everyone. As always, you can send a request to workcontrol@spu.edu or call 206-281-2330 for building comfort issues.

Professor Alberto Ferreiro
Ferreiro's article published

An article by Alberto Ferreiro, professor emeritus of history, titled “Caesarius of Arles’ Sermons, Martin of Braga’s De Correctione Rusticorum, and Venantius Fortunatus’ Poem V, 1 and 2," was published in Augustinianum 64, 2 (2024) 449-456. This study evaluates the evidence that Caesarius of Arles, Martin of Braga, and Venantius Fortunatus knew each other perhaps even beyond epistolary correspondence. Some scholars think so even though in some aspects the evidence is scant. The question is considered within the broader context of commercial, diplomatic, and ecclesial links between Gallia and Suevic Gallaecia in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula of which there is absolutely no doubt. The focus of our evidence is the sermons of Caesarius of Arles that may have influenced Martin’s sermon against paganism, "De correctione rusticorum and Poems V.1 and 2," dedicated to Martin of Braga by Venantius Fortunatus. The journal Augustinianum is the official publication of the Institute of Patristic Studies 'Augustinianum' in Rome, which offers advanced degrees in early Christianity, annual conferences, and has a major research library. This is his third publication in the journal.
