Activities: Engineering and Computer Science freshman mentor; Lab assistant for Dr. Nguyen in statics and dynamics
Hometown: Shoreline, Washington
What is something you wish everyone knew about your major? I'd like ɬÀï·¬ to know that mechanical engineering, or any engineering discipline, involves working and collaborating with other ɬÀï·¬. It's a huge misconception that engineers work by themselves, and engineering students who have taken the junior and senior design courses can say that it's a collaborative, team effort!
What was your most impactful class or professor? The whole engineering department has impacted me as an aspiring engineer and has shaped how I think and approach problems inside and outside the classroom, specifically Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Keene. Also, a huge thank you to my math and physics professors, Dr. McCord and Dr. Lindberg, who spent a lot of time teaching me the fundamentals to be able to apply them in upper division classes.
What are you excited for in your future career? I will be working in consulting after graduation and I'm excited for all the projects I will get to work on. I'm excited to learn from professionals in my field to gain more valuable skills and build from my knowledge during undergrad!
What advice do you have for your incoming students? I'd tell new students to make friends with the ɬÀï·¬ in their major/core classes because they're who you will work with for the next four years. I'd also recommend everyone to have a planner and write down all their due dates before classes start to not feel overwhelmed and be prepared for the quarter!
How have you grown during your time at SPU? I've learned to manage my time really well and to not focus on one small thing that might not matter in the next 5 years. I've also grown as a person who knows when to ask and/or accept help because while it can be intimidating, everyone at SPU honestly wants to help students be successful.
