BIOLOGY (BS OPTION III) MAJOR
Suggested Course Sequence: A Four-Year Plan

At least 108 total and 26 upper-division credits are required for the BS in Biology – Option III major. This course sequence is meant to be used as a guideline. Consult with your faculty advisor or academic counselor about modifying this plan to meet your needs, and to reflect any coursework you have already completed prior to enrolling at SPU.

Major	BIO 2101, CHM 1211	BIO 2102, CHM 1212	BIO 2103. MAT 1360 OR HSC 4044
Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				Complete Writing Skills and Math Skills Competency requirements, as dictated by placement tests
Other				Electives to reach at least 45 credits if needed

YEAR 2	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter
Common Curriculum				/
Major	CHM 3371	CHM 3372	CHM 3373, BIO 2600	MAT 1221 OR AND . BioSc 260 (4 cr): Tissue Culture and Staining BioSc 245 (4 cr): Solution and Media Preparation for Biotechnology (Both offered at Shoreline Community College—talk with your academic counselor about transfer of credits.)
Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)	Foreign Language Competency, if required.			AHA, AHB, SSA , SSB (Choose one or two depending on competency courses needed.)
Other	Apply for admission to the major once the General Biology sequence has been successfully completed.			Electives to reach at least 90 credits if needed

Major	BIO 3325, BIO 3350, CHM 3225	OR take BIO 3351 spring quarter	BIO 3351 OR take winter quarter	BIO 4615

Other		Apply to graduate once 105 credits and admission to major have been earned.		Electives to reach at least 135 credits if needed

YEAR 4	Autumn	Winter	Spring	Any Quarter
Common Curriculum				BIO 4899, (two quarters of BIO 4899 must be taken for a total of two credits).
Major	BIO 4361	BIO 4352, BIO 4362	BIO 4325	5 credits of a Physiology course: BIO 4413 or 4415 or 4418 or. 3-5 credits of an Internship in Biology: BIO 4940
Competencies Exploratory Curriculum (EC)				AHA, AHB, SSA, SSB (whichever categories remain unfulfilled)
Other	Create a final-year plan and meet with your faculty advisor for review.			Electives to reach at least 180 total college-level quarter credits and 60 upper-division credits if needed
